Kagawa Lacquerware

Lacquer in Kagawa started with Zokoku Tamakaji, in the latter part of the Edo period (1600 - 1868), who brought information back to Japan from the Asian continent. A variety of lacquer goods are made, from large pieces of furniture to small bowls and other vessels. Five of the local techniques are nationally designated traditional crafts.
