The Iya Valley is considered to be one of the three hidden regions in Japan. The deep ravine surrounded by thick forest is a magnificent sight to see. Beautiful emerald green water flows through the center of the gorge. In winter, visitors can sit in a hot spring bath while snow falls all around. The small hamlets seem to cling to the mountainsides, and the local people are working to preserve old folk dwellings.
